App Review - IRCTC Connect- Book Railway Tickets on Android
The much awaited Android app of Indian Railway is now official on Android platform, after the launch of its Windows and Blackberry version. The 12MB app is now available on Android's Google Play Store to download free of cost and compatible with devices running Android 4.1 and above. Android has biggest market share in Indian smartphone market, people were eagerly awaiting for this app after its Windows and Blackberry launch. And some people were also criticizing the IRCTC for delay in launch.

IRCTC Connect - A New Way of Ticket Booking

The new app is really has easy and responsive interference. The UI looks good and all functions are accessible from the main window. It even display the upcoming trips on the top of the app window. You can also opt-out to view the route map of the train route.  You can book and cancel the tickets with the app.

To use the IRCTC Connect on Android- Download here first and then open the app. The IRCTC Connect app will ask your login credentials. Fill them if you have account on IRCTC already. If you dont have IRCTC account then you can also register  as well by just tapping on the Register option of the app. A new window will open up. Just fill your details, Accept the terms and conditions and Register.

Pros

- The new app allows you to register, which i found works fairly smooth then the official website of Indian Railway.
- Clean UI Super Responsive and user friendly
- One step login to existing users

Cons

- Does not remember the Login details, so one has to input details everytime.
- Does  not allow to do transaction during Tatkal hours from 8.00 AM to 12.00 AM
- Booked ticket history is not available
- Annoying Advertisements in Official app
- Does not sync App data with IRCTC website data
- Profile Editing not allowed
- Passengers Master List Is Absent
- No Option to check PNR status but it does send you alerts

Verdict

We can say, the app is in starting stage and not feature rich. But the neat and responsive UI make it a good app. Overall we can say Good Start IRCTC, keep the app updated with more features in future. This app comes with a guide as well, do check it out.Till then guys please tell us your experience about the new member of Android world.

Update

The IRCTC Connect app is updated with new features, looks like the developers of the app really listened the feedback of users and updated the app in short period. The welcome screen is also updated with a new and cool look. With the new update, you don't need to input values of username and password every time when you visit the app, it remember the username and password now, but still it does not allow you to stay login always.
Another big improvement the IRCTC made is, they dramatically reduced the size of app from 12MB to almost 6MB, that's 50% less. And the big feature that everyone demanding was Login,Cancellation,PNR Status,Booking History also allowed between 08:00 to 12:00.
